Angaston, South Australia: The most Australian thing ever

April 16, 2020 Jim 2 Comments

This may be the most Australian thing ever. More Australian than kangaroos and bushfires and poisonous snakes and man-eating crocs and killer sharks and deadly spiders and beer for breakfast and Vegemite all put together.

It’s a photo of John-Paul Drake, director of Drake’s Supermarkets here in South Australia, flipping off a customer.

He’s become a local legend for posting this much-lauded online response after a hoarder tried to return one hundred and fifty 32-packs of toilet paper and another one hundred and fifty one-liter bottles of hand sanitizer. Turns out the guy had organized a ring of twenty people to go store-to-store buying the stuff but then tried to return it when eBay shut him down for price gouging.

John-Paul looked straight into the camera, flipped off the hoarder, then posted the whole thing to YouTube.com. Just like we’d all like to do.

Only in Australia.

What a splendid response to despicable conduct.
