Angaston, South Australia: The cockatoo cacophony

Locals hate wild cockatoos. They say they’re loud. They say they’re destructive because they strip fruit trees bare and devour anything wooden — porches, chairs, you name it.

But they are beautiful birds and we love their god awful screeches. Especially when they fly over in huge flocks. It always reminds us that no matter how much we feel at home here, we’re definitely not at home.
