You may think it’s unusual to find a German city in the south of Chile, of all places. But Germans are actually the rule here rather than the exception.
Wave after wave of German immigrants have come ashore over the last couple of centuries and there are now more than 500,000 Chileans who claim German heritage.
That includes a lot of Chileans who live in the Puerto Varas area. You can see their influence on the buildings, in the flowers, in the streets.
