Jamie’s all-time favorite band is Journey. If lead singer Steve Perry walked up to her on the street and said, “Run away with me,” she would pack her bags and be gone without bothering to tell me she was leaving.
Imagine her joy at finding out there’s a Journey tribute band doing a concert on Friday night at a bar just down the street.
We’ll be there. Jamie’s going for obvious reasons, but I’m going to keep an eye on her.
UPDATE: We went to tonight’s Journey tribute show, which was a major accomplishment on our part because it didn’t begin until 11:00 pm. Jamie acted as if she didn’t really care if we went or not, but you should have seen her once the show began. She suddenly transformed into a quivering teenage girl.
The band was actually pretty good. The Steve Perry impersonator/frontman was far better than we expected. Despite the fact that he was a short, heavyset, balding Chilean man who didn’t quite know the words to the songs and had to read them off an iPad, he could actually pass for Perry if you squinted your ears.
It took incredible self restraint on Jamie’s part not the rush the stage and throw her panties and room key into his Open Arms (for those of you who aren’t Journey fans, Open Arms was one of their biggest hits).
Much to our surprise, everyone in the Chilean audience knew all the English words to all the Journey songs and sang along (Jamie included).
All in all, it was a surreal evening. I guarantee that years from now we’ll still remember the night we saw the Journey tribute band in a bar in southern Chile.
UPDATE: I really do have the world’s best wife. She reads the crap I write about her and laughs. I don’t deserve her.
