Brian and Sebastian run a place called El Horno Comidas Regionales. Funny guys, great food, reasonable Spanglish. What more could you want when it comes to street food.
They make empanadas. And only empanadas. Lots and lots of empanadas. Each one baked to a perfect crispiness on the outside and stuffed with absolutely delicious marinated chicken or beef or pork or even veggies on the inside. Damn, they were good.
We normally attempt to avoid street food after what happened to god son Jack in Morocco last year. He ate street food, got sick as a dog, and had to be medivacked back to California fifteen pounds lighter and dietarily wiser.
But Jamie and I were hungry, really hungry, and there was a big crowd of excited diners gathered around the restaurant, but NO ONE gathered at a similar set up cart standing directly across the aisle. That was the only Yelp review we needed.
You know how it is when you go all day without eating and when you finally do start cramming food down your gullet, everything — and I mean everything — is the best thing you’ve ever tasted. That wasn’t the case here. Everyone else was wolfing it down just as fast as we were and they couldn’t have all been as hungry as we were.
It was all so good that Jamie and I were inspired to enroll in a an empanada cooking class tomorrow night from 6-9.
