Angaston, South Australia: A pack of alpacas

February 11, 2020 Jim 2 Comments

We took an alternate route between Angaston and Tanunda — a road we zip past almost every day — and found this pack of alpacas grazing right along the road. They kept their distance, but really wondered why we stopped and interrupted their lunch.

Some animals have really unusual group names and it seemed to me that alpacas should be among them. I was hoping for something exotic like a wake of buzzards or a murder of crows or a pride of lions. So I googled “What is a group of alpacas called?” Alas, multiple alpacas are boringly called a herd.

Doesn’t “a pack of alpacas” sound a lot better?

How about a “sweater” of alpacas?
