Tanunda, Kapunda, and Eudunda, South Australia: The name game

February 21, 2020 Jim 1 Comment

Considering the meanings of these three Barossa town names, I’m willing to hazard a guess that “unda” means water in the local Aboriginal dialect.

Tanunda means ”drinking hole” in the local Aboriginal dialect. And all roads apparently lead to Tanunda.

Similarly, Kapunda means “Water out of the ground.”

And Eudunda means “water jumps out” which was the aborigines’ way of describing a spring.

But no matter what the names mean, it’s just fun to say, “Tanunda, Kapunda, and Eudunda.”
