Angaston, South Australia: This joint is jumpin’

February 8, 2020 Jim Leave a Comment

We had not seen enough kangaroos, we agreed, so we headed to the Kaiser Stuhl Conservation Park, an untouched wilderness area just a few miles outside Angaston.

We timed it so that we would arrive in the Golden Hour just before the sun set. Temperatures dropped as the sun headed for the horizon and a light breeze wafted across the foothills.

In other words, perfect conditions for seeing lots of kangaroos.

Oddly enough, we saw our first kangaroo hop across the road about half a mile from our cottage. His companion stopped a few feet off the road to see what we were all about. We stopped and stared back until he eventually grew bored and hopped away in the opposite direction.

Kaiser Stuhl is what this part of Australia looked like before the wheat farms and sheep stations and vineyards took over.
