Kanowna, Western Australia: Welcome to the Broad Arrow Tavern

Thirty-eight kilometers northwest of Kalgoorlie lies Kanowna, a wide spot on Western Australia’s Goldfields Highway that’s been home to the Broad Arrow Tavern since 1896.

Holy crap. What an experience.

This is the Broad Arrow Tavern, better know to locals as “the Broady.” Do not ask me to explain the creature sitting on top of the roof.
The only reason we visit Kalgoorlie every time we come to Australia: Our good friends Wendy, Tiny, and Tina.

 

 

As you can see, people have been writing their names on the walls of the Broad Arrow for a long, long time. Look closely and you’ll see that Jamie is pointing to her handiwork.

 

 

 

 

 

I hate beer. But this was the Broad Arrow Tavern, damn it, so I ordered that dainty little demitasse of brewski. I suspect that all my male Aussie friends are face palming right now.
